  • Water flowing over a steep slope results in a small waterfall with a plunge pool at its base.

  • Gravel and sand swirling around at the base of the waterfall cause erosion. The plunge pool gets deeper and larger as erosion cuts away at rocks.

  • Overhanging rocks eventually break off, extending the length and depth of the chasm.
