How Do Trees Record Time?
ES2905  More about Tree Rings

Dendrochronology is an absolute dating method. In other words, it is possible to determine not only whether an event occurred before or after another event, but also the amount of time that has elapsed between events.

With the same processes you used in this simulation, archaeologists can identify the precise year in which a tree was cut to become the beam of an ancient dwelling or a rancher's fence post. Dates for several Native American cultures in the southwestern United States have been established using dendrochronology.
