How Do Storms Affect Coastlines?

Hurricane Dennis was a relatively small hurricane that diminished in strength prior to hitting land. However, the storm lingered off the coast of North Carolina for about a week, generating high waves and causing extensive damage in coastal areas of North and South Carolina and Virginia.
