What is a Web browser?
Web browsers, such as Netscape Navigator, Microsoft Internet Explorer,
and Mosaic, are software programs that help you navigate the Web and access text,
graphics, hyperlinks, audio, video, and other multimedia. Browsers work
by "translating" or "interpreting" hypertext markup language (HTML)--the code
embedded in Web pages that tells them how to look. Browsers read
this code and display the Web page accordingly.
Below you can see the
navigational features of Netscape Navigator. Navigational buttons
such as back, forward, home, and print allow you
to edit, send, and print documents from the Web with ease.
