When Ellen Dolan first read about the Iditarod race in 1986, she became eager
to know more about it. Being an avid winter-sports fan ("I once had an opportunity
to ski cross-country with a headlamp late at night to a ghost town near Aspen,
Colorado. Spooky!"), Dolan dove into her new project, and the book Susan Butcher
and the Iditarod Trail resulted.
Although she began her professional career as a concert pianist and has also taught
elementary school, her first love is writing. Her other books include The Republic
of Ireland and the Europe volume of World Myths and Legends II. Ms. Dolan
lives near St. Louis, Missouri.
