Young Writer When Laurence Yep was only 25, he published his first book. Two years later, his second book Dragonwings, won a number of awards, including a Newbery Honor Award. Yep has written 2 plays and over 17 books, many of which reflect his cultural heritage.
Two Cultures Yep is a third-generation Chinese American. Some of his novels—such as Child of the Owl and Sea Glass—focus on Chinese-American characters who are caught between two cultures.
