Rudolfo A. Anaya
1937-
"I am an oral storyteller, but now I do it on the printed page."

Rich Cultural Heritage Rudolfo Anaya was born in New Mexico where his family have lived for several generations. He grew up in a Mexican American community noted for its storytellers. He became fascinated with the oral tradition of Spanish folk tales as well as his own cross-cultural background.

Drawn to the Past Anaya is now professor emeritus of English and creative writing at the University of New Mexico. His writings draw on New Mexico's Hispanic past, and he has won many awards for both fiction and non-fiction. The New York Times once claimed that Anaya is the most widely read writer in Hispanic communities.
