3.7 Perpendicular Lines in the Coordinate plane


Lesson 3.7: Help for Exercises 33-36 on page 176

For each exercise, first identify the three lines that are given and write their names. (For example, in Exercise 33 you will write , , and .) Then for each line, write the coordinates of its two labeled points and find the slope as explained on page 165. Now look back at the diagram. If two lines appear to be parallel, check for equal slopes. If two lines appear to be perpendicular, multiply the two slopes and check for a product of -1. Make sure you check all reasonable possibilities for parallel and perpendicular lines.
