6.6 Finding Rational Zeros

The verbal model shown below can represent the volume of the monument and the base:

Assign labels and create an algebraic model, using the formula of a rectangular solid. You are given 90 cubic feet as the total volume. Because you are also given the dimensions of the monument, x, x, 3x, and the base, x, x, 0.5, as algebraic expressions, you can substitute them into the formula for the volume of a rectangular solid. Write the algebraic model in standard form and use the rational theorem to generate a list of potential zeros for the function. Remember that negative values for x do not make sense in the context of the problem. This will help you to eliminate the number of values of x that need to be tested.
