Play a role in history. As a juror, senator, and U.S. president you will consider some of the most important decisions in our nation's history. Background information, testimonies, and historical evidence is presented to help you deliberate significant historical events. After weighing all the options, cast your vote and see how your decision compares to others.

Before you begin any of the activities, please take a moment to read the information below.

Browser requirements:

4.0 or higher Internet browser.

For Netscape Navigator (Mac and PC):

  • Select "Enable Javascript" by going Edit, Preferences, Advanced.
  • Select "Enable Style Sheets" by going to Edit, Preferences, Advanced
  • .
  • Select "Accept cookies" by going to Edit, Preferences, Advanced.

For Internet Explorer (PC):

  • Check that Javascript is enabled by going to Tools, Internet Options, Security, Internet and clicking on "Custom Level."
  • Enable cookies by going to Tools, Internet Options, Security, Internet and clicking on "Custom Level."

For Internet Explorer (Mac):

  • Check that Javascript is enabled by going to Edit, Preferences, Web Content, and in the Active Content area, make sure that "Enable Scripting" is checked.
  • Enable cookies by going to Tools, Internet Options, Security, Internet and clicking on "Custom Level."

Saving:

  • Juror's Journal notes will be saved for 24 hours unless deleted.
  • Juror's Journal notes can also be saved to a text file. From the browser menu select "File, Save As." Select "Text" or "Plain Text" as the Format. You can then open or import the file into a word processor. Some reformatting may be necessary.

Printing:

  • Juror's Journal notes can be printed for your records by opening your Juror's Journal, clicking "Review Entire Journal," and clicking "Print."

Loading:

  • "Decisions in American History" contains many graphics that may take a minute to load. The following are some troubleshooting tips:
  • The "please wait, loading" notice will disappear when loading is complete.
  • If the page does not load completely, press "Reload" or "Refresh" in your browser.
  • If you are on a Mac (Internet Explorer), make sure your cache is clear by going to Edit, Preferences, Web Browser, Advanced. Under "cache", click on "Empty Now". Now try reloading the pages.
