Error Identification Questions
In error identification questions, you are asked to find mistakes in English usage. In each sentence certain words or phrases are underlined and marked with letters. You are asked to choose the underlined part that contains an error or to choose "No error" if the sentence is correct. Here is a typical question:
The courses in your school sounds more interesting than the
_______________A__________B__________C
courses in mine. No error.
___________D______E
The following strategies can help you answer error identification questions:
- Read the whole sentence carefully.
- Reread the sentence, paying attention to each underlined part. Check for lack of agreement, errors in capitalization and punctuation, mistakes in sentence construction, and errors in the choice and form of words. In the sample question, the subject of the sentence, courses, is plural and therefore requires a plural verb. Since the verb sounds is singular, the answer is B.
