When the letters c
and g
have a soft sound, they are usually followed by an e,
an i,
or a y.
When the letters c
and g
have a hard sound, they are usually followed by the vowels a, o,
or u, or by any consonant except y.
Many words end with the letters cle
(recycle, miracle, vehicle) or gle (angle, jungle, untangle). Remember that the endings cannot be spelled cel or gel without changing the sound of c and g.
