Poetry in Music (p. 199)

Many song lyrics are considered poetry. Find a song about growing up. Read the lyrics aloud for your classmates, and if possible, play the song for your class as well. Explain to the class what the song means to you. What does it express about growing up? The following Internet sites may help you find the words to a particular song, or will give you suggestions for reading the lyrics aloud.

At the "Listening Booth," a permanent feature of the Academy of American Poets Web site, you can listen to hundreds of poems read aloud. As you listen, think about techniques you can learn from the poets about reading verse aloud.
