Puerto Rico

Imagine that you are helping an elderly friend of your mother's organize a month-long trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Although this woman is in her sixties, she is active and wants to make sure that she can keep up her exercise routine while she is there. She has a number of medical problems (allergies and orthopedic problems) that will prevent her from being able to clean the house she has rented, so she will also need your help advertising for a cleaning person or home-cleaning service. Finally, just in case her medical problems flare up, she wants to make sure that she has the names of several doctors. Because she doesn't speak much Spanish, you will help her gather the information on gyms and doctors, as well as write a classified ad in Spanish for help cleaning the house. You will turn in all this information to your mother's friend, who will tell you whether or not it is complete enough to set her mind at rest!

Make recommendations for gyms and doctors in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and write a classified ad requesting help cleaning a house. You will need to include the following information:

  • three key features to look for in a gym and the name and contact information of the gym you think would best suit your mother's friend
  • a short classified ad that will be placed in a directory to help your mother's friend find someone to help her with routine household chores
  • the names and contact information of two doctors in Puerto Rico who specialize in the problems affecting your mother's friend

Each of these will be the result of one step in your information gathering. At the end of the three steps, you will turn in your work to your teacher, who will tell you whether or not you have convinced your mother's friend that she will be all right on her own in Puerto Rico for a month.
