Tool Tips and Practice

Graphics that appear with an animation control bar below them are animations or movies. Read the tips below, and practice using the controls to view this animation forward, backward, and frame-by-frame.

Tool Tips

  • The slider button that moves along the horizontal line below the animation while it is playing is draggable. Click on the slider button and drag to the right or left to see any sequence of frames within the animation.
  • Control the animation speed by dragging the slider button either slower or faster.
  • View single frames of the animation by clicking the next and back arrow buttons.
  • Clicking on the image will start or stop animations.
  • If a movie is progressing, and the slider button "runs into" your cursor, it will stop.


  • If the image or ruler tool doesn't appear on a page where the instructions indicate they should be, your computer may have some issues with the Shockwave Plug-in. See Shockwave FAQ site.
