Jet streams are fast-moving "rivers of air" that flow in the upper troposphere, along the boundaries between global air masses. Ocean temperatures strongly influence air masses and global winds, so it's no surprise that the jet streams are affected by ENSO events. The maps below show the average (mean) locations of jet streams during El Niño and La Niña phases.
