Humans have recently begun realizing
the extent to which dams can interfere with Earth system
processes. A growing number of people and organizations
have begun evaluating the costs and benefits of specific
dams. When a dam's costs exceed its benefits, removal
of the dam is sometimes recommended.
On the following pages of this investigation, you'll be rating the impact of six different aspects of Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. You'll evaluate each aspect as a cost (negative effect) or a benefit (positive effect) of the dam, then total your ratings to determine your overall evaluation of the dam.
