How Do Rocks Respond to Stress?
ES1102  Geologic Structures

You've just seen simulations of geologic structures formed by different stresses under different conditions. Now, you'll examine structures to infer the conditions and the type of stress that was applied. Keep in mind that structures in the real world are more complex than the models you just saw. Structures may show evidence of more than one type of deformation.

Note: All the structures shown here show some brittle deformation—that which broke the rock in order to expose the structure. Focus on the highlighted structures in each photograph for your answers.

3. Identify the type of structure, type of deformation, and stress direction for each image.
