Museen in Deutschland

Context

In Kapitel 4, you learned to describe your neighborhood, where you live, and the kinds of buildings you might find in a German city. What are some of the buildings you are likely to find? Among those, chances are you will find a museum. Nearly every town, regardless of size, has its own museum. In Berlin, the German Historical Museum is one of the most prominent. It has a long history-starting in the 1700s-and it reflects the changing role of the city and of Germany's history.

Application

Look at one of the collections in the German Historical Museum. Which collection interests you? What types of artifacts are in the collection? Why is this type of artifact important? If possible, print out a picture of a piece of art in the collection, or draw a copy of it. Show the picture to the class. Using the information you gathered in the first part of the activity, discuss why you think it is an important object to have in a museum of German history.
